Shame on you Hillary Clinton............................
Shame on you for making my mommie cry. Shame on you for making such a great speech last night. Shame on you for giving working class dems, like my mom, so much inspiration and hope.
How can you sleep at night knowing that you made her cry? How can you sleep knowing that you are such an inspiration for her? HOW?
My mom watched the coverage last night and caught the Senator's victory speech in Philadelphia and she cried. Here are the things that really got her going...
first this is what started the waterworks:
Not long ago a woman handed me a photograph of her father as a young soldier. He was receiving the Medal of Honor from President Truman at the White House. During World War II, he had risked his life on a daring mission to drive back the enemy and protect his fellow soldiers. In the corner of that photo, in shaky handwriting, this American hero had simply written: "To Hillary Clinton, keep fighting for us." And that is what I'm going to do because America is worth fighting for. You are worth fighting for.
She started tearing, and I could tell that she was really moved by this story. If you saw coverage last night you could clearly see that the supporters there were also moved...
The speech went on to the best part by far, to my favorite part, the part that moved me because it was just so inclusive and heartfelt:
It was in this city that our founders declared America's independence and our permanent mission to form a more perfect union. Neither Senator Obama nor I nor many of you were fully included in that vision, but we've been blessed by men and women in each generation who saw America not as it is, but as it could and should be. The abolitionists and the suffragists, the progressives and the union members, the civil rights leaders, all those who marched, protested and risked their lives because they looked into their children's eyes and saw the promise of a better future.Because of them, I grew up taking for granted that women could vote. Because of them, my daughter grew up taking for granted that children of all colors could attend school together. And because of them and because of you, this next generation will grow up taking for granted that a woman or an African American can be the president of the United States of America.
damn. like her or not, the last part of the speech is just so damn nice. It really reminds me that even though this primary season has been tough and sometimes ugly, a lot of beautiful things get said on both sides. democracy is BEAUTIFUL!!!
